Another Restorer

Buenos Dias!!!

Ruth is counted as a wonderful love story! Yet, I see it as more than that. It is a story of God’s faithfulness amidst trials, tribulations and temptations. In that regard, I see the connection to the book of James. In today’s reading, the theme of redemption flows through the entire passage. Boaz becomes the redeemer for Ruth and Naomi, and the contract is sealed with a “sandal” JI wonder about the significance of a sandal! Bigger than that, though, Naomi’s arms that were empty are now filled, Ruth a foreign refugee, becomes one of the women listed in Jesus’ genealogy. Naomi’s grandson becomes the grandfather to the restorer for Israel… better, yet: God, through this genealogy, becomes the redeemer through the incarnation of Jesus Christ, for all humanity. All this can be seen in this love story, Praise God!

Read: Ruth 4:1-22

Questions to Consider:
1.     Ponder on what would be the reason that this story of redemption is included in our biblical records? Does it have a personal message for us today? Does it have a message for us as a congregation?
2.    The ultimate restorer is Jesus Christ. What has God restored you from? Have you been empty and are now full? Have you been a foreigner and now enjoy community? Did your future look bleak but now have hope? Think of the ways Jesus Christ has come to be your restorer.

Activity for the Day: Identify a grandchild, a niece, or a nephew and send them a card with a blessing of how they are the promise of a future and a hope for humanity. Encourage them and uplift them for the work before them. If you don’t have family, just find a friend that has a grandchild, niece, or nephew and send a card to them.

Blessings,

Loida
